McKenna Ranch is a family operation, with lots of southern hospitality, good food and great accommodations. We work year round at wildlife management to be able to offer you a great hunt at a fair price. We are a fair chase hunting operation, no hunt is guaranteed but we work hard at trying to make your hunt successful. At McKenna Ranch, we promote father-son, mother-daughter hunts. Kids 15 and under come for 1/2 price up to Christmas time. This is a great place to bring your wife or kids. Kids 12 and over must have a hunter ed card to sit on a stand alone. We welcome lady hunters, bow or gun.
McKenna Ranch is located in Clarke County, Mississippi 22 miles south of Meridian on I-59, 25 miles north of Laurel, exit 126 highway 18 around 40 miles from Alabama. We have 5,200 acres to hunt on with 125 stands already placed in strategic locations. 25 totally enclosed shooting houses on the 9 miles of powerline - pipeline and other locations for bad weather hunting. 50 more are tripods or quadpods on food plots. 50 more are lean-to ladder stands, all are very comfortable. We have some ground blinds for folks not wanting to climb a ladder. Our stands are the best in the industry.
LODGING AT McKENNA RANCH: Hunters are lodged in 3 cabins, each cabin holds 5 hunters. Most are private rooms and we have some with 2 twin beds that we save for couples or father-sons. These are non smoking cabins but there are porches for outside smoking. Also, we are located in a dry county and this is a no alcohol hunting facility.
Meals are served in a 5,000 square foot facility building where we have a commercial kitchen and a spacious dining hall, which is available for use as meeting rooms for teaching or group get togethers, reunions or seminars. We serve a hot breakfast and a hearty lunch. After the evening hunt, you come in for a southern dinner. There are cookies, popcorn and ice cream in the kitchen of each cabin for a snack.
HUNTING: We will go over a safety course and all hunters must sign a General Release of Liabilities. A deposit of 50% holds your reservation, with the balance due upon arrival in cash or money order. Each hunter must have a Mississippi hunting license, which is obtainable by phone at 1-800-5-GO-HUNT, or any Wal-Mart. We do not sell licenses. McKenna Ranch welcomes you at 1:00 p.m., you may begin hunting art 2:15 p.m. NO EARLY ARIIVAL, PLEASE.
BOW HUNTERS: We have recently leased and sat aside an additional 1200 acres for bow hunting only.
McKenna Ranch is on 8 points or better and has been for 10 years. Mississippi is on a 4 points or better and has been for 10 years and this has tripled the herd of bucks in our state.
Transportation to and from stands is by 4wd surburbans, we have 4 wheel ATV's to bring in a harvested deer in hard to get to locations. If you shoot a deer and he runs off, we have blood trailing dogs to assist in finding your animal.
GAME PREPARATION: We take care of your game by cleaning, skinning and placing in our walk in cooler until you are ready to leave. Then we cut it into 6 pieces and place in your cooler for transporting to your home.
FOOD PLOTS: We plant 400 acres of food plots and included in that is 9 miles of pipeline, powerline right of way approximately 125 ft. wide. Our planting is called a salad bar, with 10 different items planted together at one time, rye, oats, barley, wheat, 2 kinds of clover, 2 kinds of turnips, and 2 kinds of peas for the variety to keep deer on the food plots a longer period of time. We have planted 500 sawtooth oak and are now planting swamp chestnut oak.
